Suzuki has unveiled a new middleweight sports crossover which breathes new life into the legendary 645cc V-twin engine.
The SV-7GX uses an updated version of the V-twin, now fully-compliant with the latest Euro5+ emissions regulations.
The acclaimed engine has given 25 years of sterling service in the SV and V-Strom. It was dropped from the V-Strom with the arrival of the new 776cc parallel-twin engine.
The revised V-twin in the SV-7GX delivers peak power of 73PS at 8,500rpm with a max 64Nm of torque at 6,800rpm. A new magneto, transmission gears, airbox, ride-by-wire throttle and new exhaust system help efficiency and performance.
The GX suffix means the SV-7GX will provide a middleweight sports crossover option in the Suzuki line-up, alongside the range-topping GSX-S1000GX.
A steel trellis frame is equipped with suspension from KYB for a plush ride and long-distance comfort.
The 795mm high seat will suit many different riders.
New 17in cast aluminium front and back wheels get Pirelli Angel GT 2 tyres while the front brakes are Tokico calipers and twin 290mm front discs.
Tall, wide, tapered aluminium handlebars make for an upright, comfortable riding position but put weight over the front tyre so riders get enough feel to enjoy the sporty side of the 7GX.
A three-step manually-adjustable screen and handguards are standard.
Standard smartphone connectivity allows riders to access maps, contacts and messages via switchgear on the left handlebar and a colour TFT screen.
The screen also shows which of three throttle maps is selected and traction control setting – there are three and it can also be turned off.
There is a USB-C charging port and a standard-fit bi-directional quickshifter.
Wind tunnel-tested bodywork shields the rider from the worst of the elements and provides aerodynamic efficiency, with styling cues from the GSX-S1000GX.
The fuel tank holds a useful 17.4 litres and a fully-integrated rear carrier boosts practicality.
Lighting is full LED all round, with a new design at the front for improved illumination and cornering visibility.
Accessories includes a 45-litre top box, soft panniers, tank bags and heated grips.
The SV-7GX is due to arrive late next summer with pricing still to be announced.
Suzuki has also announced updates to the GSX-S1000GX.
New winglets on the fairing improve downforce and enhance high-speed stability while modified mirror mountings reduce vibration for clearer rear views.
The new model arrives early next year, pricing to be confirmed.
