Sam Cook, one of our workshop technicians, won a motocross race series for old bikes.
Riding a 1981 Suzuki DR500 trail bike, which he rebuilt and adapted himself, he won his class for pre-1984 twin-shock machines, taking five of the six rounds in the Eastern Evo Motocross Series.
He also finished respectably overall, despite competing against some serious motocross machines with around 40 taking part in each round.
His success, which saw him amass 527 points to finish well ahead of the class runner-up on 419, was made even more impressive as he did not compete in one round because he broke the headstock on the frame in practice.
It meant he had just a week to reinforce and modify a spare frame, then rebuild his bike, in time for the next round.
