Our sponsored race riders, Haydon Smith, Fred Mcmullan and Corey Tinker, are continuing to put in strong performances on the track and pick up the pace as the season progresses.
Haydon Smith
Haydon raced Kieran Lewis’s TZ250 3YL GP race bike again in round four of the British Motorcycle Racing Club’s (Bemsee) new Open 500 2-Stroke Class at Cadwell Park, in Lincolnshire.
The bike was dialled in closer to where they wanted to be which showed in the lap times and results as the team came away with three wins, and just missed out on a fourth.
The team also set a new lap record for the 2T Engineering Open 500 2 stroke class with a time of 1:40.562.
In the Twistgrip Motorcycles Yamaha Past Masters Racing Club class the team achieved its best results of the season so far.
Haydon finished second in race one, just 0.043 behind the winner, and then won the second race for his first YPM win.
He led most of race three but was overtaken by two riders on the last lap to finish third.
After some minor suspension tweaks, it was back to winning in the fourth race leading from lap one and putting in his quickest time on the last lap to avoid being caught again.
Fred Mcmullan
Fred had some great results in East Midland Racing Association’s round three meet at Mallory Park.
In the first race of the Open 600 class, his Honda CBR600R was running like a dream but the rear tyre overheated and lost grip but he still finished fourth.
With a new tyre for the second race Fred finished second with a new PB.
In his first race in the 80-450cc Open class, aboard his Kawasaki ZXR400, he was outbraked on the last lap and came home first in class and second overall.
He led race two but, shadowed by another rider, was pipped on the line by 0.059 of a second. He finished second with another PB and the fastest lap of the race.
A week later Fred was at the Barry Sheene Festival at Oliver’s Mount road race circuit near Scarborough.
He qualified ninth out of 36 riders on his Honda for race one and finished third in the stock supersport class for his first road racing podium.
After another good start in race two he lost a position at the first corner but finished 11th overall and fourth in class.
Fred got away in the third race with the front group which helped him knock another two seconds off his best lap, bringing it down to one minute 53 seconds, his second PB of the weekend.
He finished third in class and in the same position in class overall for the weekend which was a great result and a very pleasant surprise.
Corey Tinker
Corey Tinker had another strong weekend at the Knockhill circuit in Fife, Scotland, in the British Supersport class of the British Supersport Championship.
He made up several places, after starting 19th, in a great sprint race on the first day to finish 12th and in the points.
He started the main supersport race the following day from 13th and brought the Josh Davis Motorsport Ducati V2 home in 11th.
Corey said of the main race: “After a good start we were up to P9 and, when making a move for P8 on the final laps, I ran wide meaning we dropped to P10 and on the final lap I hit a false neutral on the final corner meaning I dropped to P11!
“Not the result I felt like we deserved but at least we were fighting.”
