Plan ahead and book your motorbike service

Looking forward to getting your motorbike back on the road in spring? Need to get it serviced? Book it in now!

It’s only February but now is the time to think about getting your motorbike maintained if it’s due a service.

Joe Lowe, our workshop and service manager, said: “A lot of people are already booking up in April, May and June to get servicing done.

“Some people are thinking ahead so please start planning your 2024 riding season now. Don’t get caught short.

“As winter recedes, people start booking bikes in for servicing and the wait for a workshop slot goes from a couple of weeks to ‘up to 10 weeks’ in the middle of summer.”

He urged people not to wait until the service indicator comes on before booking a service as you might not get a workshop appointment within the time or mileage limit.

Joe’s advice is to check when it was last serviced, and at what mileage, and book your motorbike in for its routine maintenance as soon as possible. You might have to look back in your diary, or check past invoices, as many motorbikes now have electronic records rather than physical service books.

“Some people even book servicing a year ahead,” he explained.

Also check when your motorbike is due an MOT test, either through your paperwork or the government website.

Joe said: “Try to get a service and MOT test done at the same time as it saves a double visit.”

It’s also worth checking that fork seals are not leaking, tyres are not bald, all lights work and the battery is charged before the MOT test, especially if your motorbike has been laid up over winter.
