New 74 plate sees sales surge in up-and-down year

September is another busy month for us with a host of handovers of new 74 registration plate motorbikes to customers.

New motorbike registrations this month are set to be up there with some of our best September performances in what has been an up-and-down year.

Rob Walters said sales of new motorbikes were good for the first half of the year. Some great manufacturer deals helped put registrations ahead of the same period last year.

A wet, cold spring and early summer saw new registrations tail off but the used motorbike market took over with strong sales as bikers looked for the added value of late-plate models for the summer.

“The wet summer has not helped but new motorbike sales have picked up again since we have had a bit of sunshine and warmth.

“The wet weather put some people off buying a brand new motorbike. But, with the weather improving, things have picked up in September and new model sales are comparing well with previous years.

“We are expecting, as in previous years, the riding season to continue later and later in the year. We are getting very few frosts so there is not a lot of salt on the roads.

“The winter season, when many motorbikes are taken off the road, seems to be shorter which spreads our sales out over the year and helps business,” he explained.

It also makes life easier for the workshop, levelling out some of the seasonal peaks and troughs of servicing work.
