A new range of KTM 390 Adventure is due to arrive in the showroom this month with the debut of R and X models.
The 390 Adventure R is the most off-road-capable, small-capacity adventure motorbike to date with a rally-inspired design, completely new chassis, long-travel suspension and 21in front and 18in rear wheels.
The 390 Adventure X is a less extreme, more affordable entry into the KTM Adventure family.
A new two-piece steel trellis frame, based on that also used by the latest 390 Duke, Enduro R and SMC R, is specifically engineered for off-road use.
The 390 Adventure R features WP Apex 43mm open cartridge forks with 230mm of travel. Compression and rebound can be adjusted through 30 clicks.
The rear WP Apex shock absorber also boasts 230mm of travel and 20-click adjustable rebound. Preload is adjusted with a tool.
The 390 Adventure X has non-adjustable front forks and only rear shock absorber preload can be adjusted. Both have 200mm of travel.
The R model’s spoked 21in/18in wheels and tyres are designed for traction and durability on challenging terrain.
The X version is more road-focused, with occasional off-road use. It has 19in front and 17in cast wheels and tyres that balance on-road comfort and light off-road capability.
The R also gets uprated brakes while both models have selectable off-road ABS mode so the back wheel can be locked.
Adventure models feature selectable off-road and street modes. The R also has a rain mode and cornering traction control.
A new five-inch dashboard is TFT on Adventure R and LCD on X. Smartphone connectivity functions include playing music, answering incoming calls and turn-by-turn navigation.
The new dashboards are supported by completely redesigned, illuminated switchgear.
KTM’s 390 Adventure R is priced £6,999 and the X £5,399.
