Manufacturer offers drive new 73 plate sales

Sales were surprisingly strong for the new 73 registration plate in September but much of the success was down to some attractive money-saving offers from manufacturers.

Dave Willis said: “September has been better than expected. It’s been pretty good but a lot of it is down to the manufacturers.”

August sales were boosted with great offers from each of our franchises – Kawasaki, KTM and Suzuki.

  • Kawasaki’s Summer Test Ride Rewards offered £1,000 and £650 off selected motorbikes. All new motorbikes got a free four-year warranty rather than the standard two years.
  • KTM’s Let’s Trade Keys gives discounts of £1,000 to £3,000 on selected new 2023 motorbikes until the end of October. Some models had warranties extended from two to four years. Add low-rate finance and the equivalent of the VAT off 2023 off-road enduro and motocross motorbikes and KTM has been wooing buyers.
  • Suzuki had low-rate finance of 2%, 3% and 4% over two, three and four years on larger motorbikes and test-ride bonuses and attractive savings.

These offers, along with some better weather later in summer, also helped 73-plate registrations.

“September has been above average but I think it’s more to do with the offers that manufacturers are giving.

“Used bike sales usually drop off at this time of year, and I’m hearing a lot of dealers are not selling much, so our performance is quite encouraging,” he added.
