KTM reveals prices for new small-capacity supermotos

POSTED: 28/01/2025

KTM has revealed the prices of its two new contenders in the supermoto segment.

The KTM 125 SMC R and 390 SMC R, which join the 690 model, are priced at £4,899 and £5,699 respectively.

The 125 SMC R is expected to arrive in the showroom in March, followed by the 390 version.

We have high hopes they will do well.

Orwell Motorcycles director Dave Willis said: “They’re going to be welcome additions to the KTM range, especially the 125 because I can’t think of another premium brand supermoto 125 and the 125 Duke is a popular bike with learners.

“If I was 17 again I would be getting excited about that.”

These small-capacity SMC R models boast long-travel suspension, 17in wheels, grippy tyres and a specific range of rider aids and tech.

They have a slim body profile, thanks to a compact nine-litre fuel tank and slimline fairings, and off-road-inspired styling.

The 125 and 390 SMC R both have 43mm open cartridge front forks, with 230mm of travel. The 390 gains compression and rebound adjustability in 30-click increments.

Both have an off-centre rear shock absorber, with 230mm of travel, with adjustable rebound via 20 clicks on the 390. Preload can be adjusted with a tool on both models.

Both models have 110/70 R17 front and 150/60 R17 tyres. The 125 has cast wheels, the 390 spoked rims.

They share powerful 320mm radial front and 240mm single piston rear brakes.

The compact single-cylinder LC4c engines, which debuted in the recent Duke range and are Euro 5+ compliant, feature a new airbox to suit the SMC R packaging. This allows the engine to sit higher, increasing ground clearance and allowing a more focused rider triangle.

A unique, stainless steel exhaust design does not need an end muffler and saves 2kg. Specially-engineered and designed KTM PowerParts are available to add more style, clearance or power.

A power-assisted slipper clutch is fitted for easier clutch control and Quickshifter+ is optional.

Selectable ride modes, on 390 SMC R only, feature default Street for more control and Sport where traction control can be turned off completely.

A new memory feature retains the selected ride mode when the motorbike is started again. In Sport mode, there is the choice of road, supermoto or supermoto+ ABS.

Both models have LED lights.

A new 4.2in TFT dashboard displays speed, fuel level and gear indicator, supported by redesigned switchcubes with a four-way joystick and lit switches.

Smartphones can be linked via the KTMconnect app.

KTM is also launching 125 and 390 Enduro Rs to join the 690 version this year.

They will feature long-travel suspension, 21/18in spoked wheels and a new minimal TFT dashboard.
