KTM back from brink and looking to bright future

POSTED: 02/06/2025

KTM is gearing up production after being pulled back from the brink thanks to an 800 million euro cash injection.

KTM’s manufacturing partner Bajaj Auto has now invested another 600 million euros on top of 200 million euros previously received from the Indian company. It looks set to become the majority shareholder.

The latest investment, just days ahead of the deadline, means the Austrian manufacturer can meet its legal obligations of paying the agreed 30% quota to creditors to avoid liquidation and remain operational.

It follows KTM’s 90-day self-administration period which began late November.

Bajaj’s initial 200 million euros helped kickstart KTM’s manufacturing lines in Asia in March and now it can get back to full production at its main plant in Mattighofen/Munderfing in Austria.

With small-capacity models already in production we expect to see the new KTM 390 Enduro and Adventure R and X models appearing in showrooms in July.

Launches for KTM’s 1390 Super Duke GT, Super Adventure versions and 990 RCR were delayed but these models should come on stream later this year after the Austrian factory has made 2026 model-year off-road motorbikes.

Orwell Motorcycles director Dave Willis said KTM’s financial woes had put the jitters in people who were concerned about the future of the Austrian manufacturer and whether warranties would be honoured.

“We’ve been running down 2024 stock but are now looking forward to a host of new models.”

But he anticipated KTM stock would be limited in the immediate future as it focused on quality rather than quantity.

“The product is great and KTMs ride well but the brand became a victim of its own success,” he said.

“It has been a case of clearing out the network of all the old stock ahead of the new range of which numbers will be scarce.

“I can see KTMs now becoming harder to get hold of and being very sought after,” he added.
