Haydon battles back after scary crash to win championship

Congratulations to Haydon Smith who overcame a nasty crash and fought back from injury to win the British Motorcycle Racing Club 2026 2T Engineering Open 500 Championship.
Haydon, one of the race riders we help to support, and the HI-Precision Racing/2T Engineering team were sitting pretty going to Donington Park at the end of July.
Haydon was flying on Kieran Lewis’s TZ250 3YL GP race bike in qualifying in the Bemsee Open 500 2-Stroke Class but had a scary crash when a well-used rear tyre let go at 78mph.
He needed medical attention after the crash and could not race.
Three weeks later, riding with a broken hand in round seven at Cadwell Park, the plan was to take it easy and pick up a few points.
He did a few laps on Paul Whitby’s Yamaha TZR250, his ride in the Yamaha Past Masters Racing Club class, and then had to use it for qualifying for the Open 500 as the TZ250 was stripped down to sort an issue.
His first Open 500 race ended early with a cracked exhaust flange on the TZR but in race two he finished in the points.
Racing on Sunday saw the TZ250 back in action and Haydon did the double with two outright wins in the Open 500.
In the second race of the day he beat his own lap record from earlier in the year and wrapped up the Open 500 Championship with two rounds to go.
In the Yamaha Past Masters on the Sunday he also had two third place podiums on the TZR.
 
Corey Tinker
Corey Tinker put in some strong performances at Oulton Park.
In the opening British Supersport race, he qualified 17th but knuckled down to bring the Josh Davis Motorsport Ducati V2 home in 10th place.
In the main feature race on the second day, he started 11th and finished seventh after working hard to make up places and fighting to maintain the position to equal his best result of the year so far.
At Thruxton, despite a technical problem starting early on in the first sprint race, he battled on to finish ninth.
He also finished ninth in the main feature race the following day, making it his strongest weekend of the year so far with two finishes in the top 10.
 
Fred Mcmullan
Fred Mcmullan was unlucky at East Midland Racing Association’s round four meeting at Mallory Park.
He was due to start P1 in the 80-450cc open class but his Kawasaki ZXR400 developed a problem that could not be fixed at the track.
