We’re pleased to report that Fred Mcmullan, a talented up-and-coming race rider we’re proud to support, made a promising start to his debut season in the British Superbike Championship’s Junior Supersport class.
The 15-year-old Leiston racer, who rides for TeamVal-Tech Racing, which is also in its maiden Junior Supersport season, soon got into his stride in the two races in the first round at Silverstone in mid-April.
Fred learned a lot about his new Yamaha R3, riding it for the first time testing at Snetterton circuit in late March and continued the learning curve at Silverstone.
He started the first race of the season in 23rd, having improved his lap times in every track session.
After dropping back at the start, he battled his way back up to team mate Darragh O’Mahony and finished right behind him in 24th.
With a couple of tweaks to the bike, Fred started next day’s second race in 27th but caught up with the pack in front and posted his best lap in a time of 1:05.317. Fred finished 18th but was just 1.1 seconds behind the 12th rider.
Fred is clearly relishing his new Junior Supersport challenge.
“I’m enjoying it. It’s very different to what I’ve done before – a lot more competitive and faster.”
He’s also enjoying riding for TeamVal-Tech Racing and the support they’re giving him, including setting up his race bike and helping build his fitness and stamina.
Fred’s next British Junior Supersport racing is at Donington Park on 20-22 May.
