Father and son dominating Formula 400 championship

Nick and Haydon Smith, our sponsored father-and-son race team, continue to lead the field in the British Motorcycle Racing Club’s Formula 400 championship.

The Hi-Precision Engineering team mates shared the spoils in the BMCRC Formula 400 championship with two wins apiece on their Kawasaki ZXR400s at Snetterton in round three.

Nick, number 151, took a dominant win in a wet opener, more than 20 seconds up on the second-placed rider.

After failing to finish race one, son Haydon, number 25, won race two just half a second ahead of his father.

Nick won race three, just over a second up on Haydon. The positions were reversed in the final race with one and a half seconds covering the top four.

Andy Gill turned on the form and won all four races at Donington Park’s round four.

He won from Haydon in race one by three seconds, before beating Nick in race two by half a second.

Nick won the Sub-64bhp class wins finishing third in race one and runner-up in the second race.

Haydon Smith took second in race three a quarter of a minute behind the winner.

Nick’s retirement on the penultimate lap dropped him out of the running for the Sub-64 class win.

In the closing race, Haydon finished second with Nick third to claim another Sub-64 class victory.

After Donington, Nick was leading the Sub-64 and full power championships with Haydon second in the latter.
