If ever the term iconic should be applied to a motorbike it deservedly goes to the Suzuki SV650.
The hugely-popular model, hailed as the original naked middleweight which set the class standards, is coming to the end of the road after more than a quarter of a century.
We have two black SV650s in stock and expect them to be snapped up pretty soon given the loyal following for this model and the special place the SV650 has in some riders’ hearts. Many riders fell for its charms as a popular rider training bike.
The long-serving V-twin has fallen foul of stricter Euro 5b emissions regulations, and follows on from the demise of the V-Strom 650, but it will be sadly missed.
Our Suzuki specialist, Alex White, fondly remembers covering big miles on an SV650 as his first big bike.
“They are indestructible, have plenty of grunt and sound really throaty with that V-twin engine. They are easy to ride and fuel efficient.”
Alex still rates the SV650 as one of the best bikes on the market and says he will really miss it.
“A Suzuki SV650 was my first big bike when I did my A2 licence at 19 years old,” he recalls. “It saw me into my bigger bike years.”
He bought it at Orwell Motorcycles from Liam McCartney, with whom Alex now works in the sales team, after learning to ride on a Honda CG125.
“I bought it as an ex-demo bike with 800 miles on it. I sold it when it was just shy of 17,000 miles.
“I had it for two-and-a-half years and it never missed a beat. It was reliable, fun and sounded awesome.”
Alex changed his SV650 for a Suzuki GSR750 as he wanted a more powerful motorbike but still has fond memories of his trusty SV650.
“I’m personally saddened by the loss of the SV650 because it’s a model I hold dear to my heart,” he added.
The SV650 has a huge following, with past and present owners, and is currently on offer at 5.9% APR HP so we are confident there will be riders who want to give one of the last SV650s a good home.
