Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride fun way to help worthy causes

POSTED: 02/06/2025

Riding motorbikes and helping charity proved a winner for the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride.

This year we joined riders around the world on Sunday 18 May for the annual ride, held in more than 1,000 venues, to raise money for worthy causes in aid of men’s health.

It was the first time we’ve taken part in the event which was started in Sydney, Australia, in 2012. We decided to register our own ride from our Ranelagh Road showroom in Ipswich to our friends at the First Coffee Shop at Debach, near Woodbridge.

About 20 staff, customers and friends joined the social ride, many on classic and retro motorbikes, to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

The charity event has raised more than 70 million Australian dollars for men's health with its official charity partner Movember.

Dave Willis, who donned his dapper gentleman’s tweed jacket to ride his Yamaha XT660-based Tucano motorbike, said: “There wasn’t a Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in Ipswich and we’ve always thought we should do this charity event.

“With our new Royal Enfield brand we now have the retro-style motorbikes that fit in with it so well.

“It was a good excuse to take part and raise some money for charity at the same time.”

Despite a late start setting up our own ride, we still raised more than £1,300 for charity.

“We were late to the party this year, and only registered a couple of weeks before the event, but we now plan to build on it for next year,” he added.

Next year’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is on Sunday 17 May so keep that day free if you want to join our ride.
