Buying building opens up dealership expansion plans

We are looking forward to an exciting new chapter in the Orwell Motorcycles story after buying the building that houses our dealership.
It comes as Orwell Motorcycles celebrates its 25th anniversary of moving to the Ranelagh Road showroom.
It means we can now start putting plans for growing the business and premises into action.
Director Dave Willis said the lease on the building was due for renewal in September after 25 years.
“We’d been thinking about what to do for the last two years. We want to expand, and had even considered moving, but we like it here and it’s a good position.
“And it’s a lot of hassle to move and very expensive.
“An opportunity to buy the building came up with a change of landlord. So, after many months of negotiating, we eventually took ownership of our own premises.”
Having carried out a lot of work adapting the building to meet our needs it made sense to stay here.
Orwell Motorcycles has big plans about expanding its dealership facilities over the coming years.
“It gives us the opportunity now to add an additional floor and expand,” said Dave.
Before a mezzanine floor can be installed over part of the showroom, a new roof is needed to improve insulation and retain heat with the current suspended ceiling being removed.
A mezzanine floor would create extra storage over the workshop and could also house extra office space, possibly one of the motorbike brands, displays and a meeting area for customers.
Future plans also include solar panels on the roof to reduce energy costs.
“We want to expand and make the dealership into a destination as there are fewer bike shops.
“We can then draw more customers in from a wider area. People are looking for an excuse to ride somewhere and we can be a destination,” said Dave.
